In South Asian families, paan (betel leaf) is stored in containers called paan dans. It also keeps extra ingredients like zarda, supari (or gua), kattha, choona, clove, cardamom (elachi), and other accessories. A paan dan is a type of cutlery used mostly to hold betel leaf, betel seeds, and the majority of other spices needed to make paan. Frequently composed of perforated metal, a Paan Daan Box includes multiple chambers for keeping the various components needed to make paan.



Paan daan Box is a copperware was particularly popular in the 19th century. Wajid "Ali Shah," the last king of the kingdom of Oudh, who was overthrown and banished to Calcutta by the British in 1856, kept his regular paan ingredients in a paan dan. The precise paan dan employed by Wajid was later handed to Queen Mary on the 1911–1912 Indian visit and Delhi Coronation Durbar, and in 1912 it was donated to the British Museum. In earlier times, a paan dan was often carried. A paan dan made of pure copper was carried by the dancing ladies of the Lucknow Nawabs' court. Field workers and other rural residents used to typically consume betel leaf and its seeds. People chewed it to quell their hunger because it has light narcotic-like painkilling properties.

3. Lemon and salt mixed together can be rubbed to clean the product and salt can also be replaced with Baking Soda.
